Rowing at Hampton:

Rowing is a major sport at Hampton, with a large following. Hampton is the leading school in supplying rowers for International Representation. The school has a large fleet of boats comprising of eights, fours, pairs and singles. Pupils can start rowing in the 3rd year.

In September 2000 the Millennium Boat House, which Hampton share with LEH, was opened by Sir Steve Redgrave.

Rowing Squads:

J14 – this is the beginners' squad. The emphasis on J14’s is to establish watermanship rather than to win medals. The boys scull in: 1x, 2x, 4x and 8.
The culmination of the year is finally racing at Peterborough J14 Regatta.

J14 information

J15 – In their second year of Rowing, sweep oar rowing is gradually introduced. The training becomes more intensive and boys will aim to compete in Eights at the National Schools' Regatta.

'A' Squad – When boys join the A-Squad, commitment is expected. Intensive training with boys in the 6th Form means new friendships are also made. It is from the 'A' Squad that the First and Second Eight is chosen. Every year many boys in the 'A' Squad will go on to represent Great Britain and England at International level:

  • Coup de la Jeunesse
  • Junior World Championships
