A message from the Head of First Year: Mr R D Worrallo

January 2010

Dear First Year Parent

Happy New Year!  I do hope you had a very good Christmas holiday and that you and your sons have a very successful 2010.
I trust you have received your son’s report and have been able to discuss it together over the holiday. I was very impressed with both the grades and the comments given this year. It is clear that the boys have settled in impressively at Hampton and they are all making good progress.

I have also been delighted to send over one hundred and seventy merit certificates home so far. Merits are awarded for excellent work, or for signs of a real improvement. Do encourage your son to see me if he has been awarded ten merits so that I can congratulate him and award a certificate. Boys are given their first certificate for gaining 10 merits, Bronze for 20, Silver for 30 and Gold for 40. When the boys get 50 merits I send them to see Mr. Martin. Last year all such boys were also given a prize at the Lower School Evening at the end of the year. I am generally in my office to perform this pleasant task on Mondays and Tuesdays between 1 and 1.30 pm.

There are a couple of important dates to note this term. The HSPA will be hosting a First Year Parents’ Reception on Thursday 28 January. There will also be a First Year Inter-Form Rugby and Football competition on Friday 12 February.

Finally there will be a second Homework Holiday in the week beginning Monday 8 March. This year we have decided to have another ‘Cooking Week’ encouraging the boys to learn more about healthy eating and how to prepare some simple but healthy meals. This was a real success last year. More details to follow!

You will receive a grade card for your son at Easter.

Do be in touch if you have any concerns or questions,

Yours sincerely

Mr R.D. Worrallo
Head of First Year
