New Forest: Easter 2005

The Award Scheme is a programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities designed to aid the development of young people. At Hampton it is co-ordinated by a small group of school staff who rely on the help of many other teachers to oversee the students' chosen activities.

New Forest: Easter 2005Participants may enter the Award at any time after their fourteenth birthday, commencing with Bronze, Silver (15 years +) or Gold (16 years +). To complete the Award each participant must complete four sections: spending a minimum of six months pursuing a skill or hobby; undertaking a service section activity for a minimum of three months; getting involved in some form of physical recreation; and finally completing an Expedition. This section is perhaps the most demanding and involves many weeks of training to ensure that the participant is competent safely to undertake a walk lasting several days, carrying a full pack over varying terrain.

Silver Practice: New Forest 2009 | Gold Assessment: Lake District - October 2009

At Hampton our pupils are encouraged to join with boys and girls from a variety of local schools. For this reason the Silver and Gold Expedition training course is based at Richmond Youth Club with instruction being given New Forest: Easter 2005by experienced staff from Hampton School and elsewhere.

2008 - 2009

The number of boys involved in this scheme continues to grow, with participants undertaking the various stages and levels of the scheme. Hampton staff also provided training for staff and students from other schools in Richmond. Successful Bronze expeditions involving forty-two boys took place in the Surrey Hills. A total of forty-four boys completed Silver practice and assessment expeditions in The New Forest and Dorset. Thirty-five boys (and six girls) took part in Gold practice expeditions held in Snowdonia and the Lake District with twenty-two boys (and four girls) completing their assessment expedition in the Yorkshire Dales in October, Snowdonia in April or the Lake District in July.
