Hampton School Chess Teams 2007 - 2008

Most School Chess matches are played after school on Fridays in teams of six.
The decisions and organisation are based in Room5.

Every match involves 1 game for each player using clocks and a recording sheet.
The time limit for each game is 30 moves in 1 hour with an extra 15 minutes to finish.
Matches therefore can be in play for up to 2 ½ hours.

For all matches I publish a team sheet, detailing specific times on the Tuesday or Wednesday of that week, and confirming availability. Teams are finalised on Thursday, with a reserve needed until Friday lunchtime.

The league is between (mainly independent) schools in Surrey. Teams are six players.
We have entered three teams in Div1, 3 and 4.
Note: The school calendar shows the team.

We also have entered the ECF British Schools Championship (Formerly the Times).
This involves:

  • zonal matches from November to February, (possibly Tuesdays)
  • a knockout (usually Southern England) stage in March/April.
  • semi-finals and finals one weekend at the end of June.

In the last six years we have won it once, and won the plate competition twice.

Home matches are played on the second floor of the Alexander Centre.
We set up the room soon after 4pm, but timings depend on the opposition school.
Usually the match finishes ~7pm, but some individuals finish their own game earlier.

Away matches involve a minibus trip across Surrey, leaving school just after 4pm.
Occasionally the journey is near a player’s home, but usually everyone returns to Hampton School ~8pm. Those with mobile phones can fine tune the exact time.
Parents will become acquainted with the new gates !
