Monday 1 February Unexpected Opera
450 Hall 8.00 p.m.
Unexpected Opera presents an open dress rehearsal of the new comic opera Orpheus Down Under, by Jacques Offenbach (adapted from Orpheus in the Underworld by Tim Riley and Lynn Binstock). Unexpected Opera presents classic works in English with clarity and humour. Perfect for the operatic first-timer and a rewarding surprise for seasoned campaigners. Jazz Band, Swing Band, Barbershop Quartet, &c. Tickets include supper, and a bar is available. Book early to avoid disappointment – numbers are limited, and this event always sells out.

All day, the Lady Eleanor Holles School
The Lady Eleanor Holles School hosts this year’s series of master-classes with distinguished musicians. Details will be published nearer the time.
Barbican, all morning
Featuring many of those often heard, but hard to place, classical tunes that crop up on television, including Prokofiev’s Montagues and Capulets (The Apprentice), Dvorak’s New World Symphony (Hovis Bread) and many others. We join Rachel Leach and the London Symphony Orchestra to discover just why these classical pieces were used, and what makes them so great.

The Second Year boys have been preparing a joint project in their music and drama lessons, which they perform on these two nights. Further details will be published nearer the time.

The Music Society hosts an evening when we invite current and past members of the School and their parents to join us in celebrating the School’s Music in performance and reminiscence. Old Hamptonian musicians can take a first look at the new facilities in the 450 Hall. A buffet supper and bar will be provided.

A final burst of music making on the last evening of term, including solo performances from some of our senior musicians.
All welcome, no auditions. See the Music Society’s Choral Society webpage for details of this year’s programme. If your son or daughter is in the Choir or Orchestra, take this opportunity to perform with them. Refreshments are provided at rehearsals.
Most rehearsals will take place in the Assembly Hall at LEH. You should enter the school by the Great Hall Gates and go through the Reception entrance. Sunday rehearsals are from 2.30 – 4.30 p.m. Weekday rehearsals are from 7.00 – 9.00 p.m.

The Music Society exists to support the Music Department by helping with concerts, and providing financial support for special projects. Members receive a regular newsletter, early notice of ticket sales, and occasional social events are arranged.
