Introductory Courses
- Latin: we use the Cambridge Latin Course prior to starting GCSE syllabus work. The CLC aims to help pupils read Latin fluently, and to develop an understanding of Roman civilisation and society. Stories are set in Pompeii, Rome, Alexandria, and Roman Britain. By GCSE, boys have read in Latin selections of some of the best Roman authors, have learned to discuss their style and content critically, and can cope with (largely) undoctored passages for unseen translation and comprehension.
- Greek: in the past we have used either Athenaze or L.A. Wilding's Greek for Beginners. We have now begun also to use John Taylor's 'Greek to GCSE'. Again, boys read a selections from Greek authors for GCSE and tackle unseen translation and comprehension passages.
