The main aim of the Scheme is to enrich learning and encourage pupils to be academically ambitious.  The Scheme is aimed primarily at disadvantaged children.

Boys from local primary schools attended the “Serious Fun on Saturdays” scheme at Hampton School, enjoying free enrichment lessons in Maths and English.

Hampton staff and the educational charity SHINE worked together to deliver a programme involving Science, Design Technology and Art, Maths and English in a fun and different way.

The Scheme involves boys drawn from six local primary schools: Forge Lane Primary School, Oriel Junior & Infant School, Crane Park Junior School, Buckingham Junior School, Hampton Junior School and Hampton Hill Junior School. The pupils enjoy a range of activities, including building and racing model dragsters, experimenting with forensic science, exploring stories, creative writing and art workshops.

SHINE has made a grant for the set up and running costs of the programme at Hampton and the School is also supporting the project in-kind.

SHINE (Support and Help IN Education) is an educational charity working with underachieving children in disadvantaged areas of London and Manchester. Further information is available from the charity’s website (www.shinetrust.org.uk)
