November 2011 - The OHA AGM has now been rescheduled for Monday 9 January 2012 at 8.00pm in the OHA Pavilion.
Dear Old Hamptonian
Iain Maclean retired on 31 August 2011 after service to Hampton Grammar School and Hampton School, spanning the five decades from 1970.
The School will be hosting a Dinner for Iain at 7.30 pm on Friday 30 March, 2012. Carlos Mills, Head of Football, and I are working together on planning the occasion. There will be no charge for the Dinner and a cash bar will be in operation.
This will be an informal celebration and dress will be smart casual. Speeches will be kept to a minimum, as the main purpose of the evening is for lots of people who have not seen Iain or each other for some time, to have an opportunity to talk and reminisce. Guests will be invited to send in, or bring, photos or memorabilia of Iain for display. There will be a book of blank pages in which people can write their best wishes and anecdotes about Iain on the evening.
Ten Old Hamptonians who responded to an earlier announcement in the OH Chronicle have indicated their wish to attend. Places available are limited and we can accommodate up to a further 50 Old Hamptonians. The fairest way to proceed is to allocate the places on a “first come first served” basis so, if you wish to attend the dinner, please note that the first 50 persons replying to this email will have places booked. If necessary a reserve list will run and any other places not taken up will be released.
If you need further information, please contact Carlos Mills
c.mills@hamptonschool.org.uk or me at the School. Meanwhile, if you wish to attend, please email promptly.
Yours sincerely
Barry Martin
Richard Smalman-Smith (Hampton Staff 1992 – 2003)
Some may remember me as a teacher of Maths, Physics and Rowing. I left to teach in York, but I have since moved “home again” to teach at KGS.
I have taken some unpaid leave and I am about to attempt a row across the Atlantic Ocean, in a double with my wife Helena. A sort of mid-career crisis, or something like that!
We are scheduled to depart on December 4th (2011) from the Canaries, and take up to 3 months to row to Barbados. There are 16 other boats attempting this at the same time, and you might have seen some publicity about the race.
Famous Old Hamptonian, Chris Martin (’93 to ’98 ish) is amongst those who have given us advice. As well as winning Gold medals at the World Rowing Championships, Chris has rowed across both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Anyone wanting to know more about the row should go to the websites
