A Fully Integrated Literacy Programme incorporating, where appropriate:

  • Multi-sensory teaching methods
  • Literacy requirements in: reading, reading comprehension spelling and writing
  • Memory techniques
  • Study skills to include: reading strategies, note making, writing techniques and
  • revision strategies
  • Presentation, writing speed and word processing
  • Curriculum focused activities

2A.   First to Third Year Spelling Course  1/2:1 (starting January 2013)
  • 18 lunchtime lessons spread over two terms
  • Tailored to individual spelling needs
  • 3-pronged approach – phonological awareness – spelling rules – irregular spellings

2B.    First to Third Year Group Spelling Course for 3 - 5 Boys in a Group

3A  Fourth Year Study Skills Course 1/2:1 (starting January 2013)
         
  • 16 lunchtime lessons (January through to School Exams)
  • Part 1 – writing skills – planning, summarising, proofing; speed reading strategies
  • Part 2 – memory, revision and examination techniques
  • Incorporates curriculum base activities

3B.    Fourth Year Group Study Skills for 3 - 5 Boys in a Group

4A Fifth Year Year Lunchtime Lessons 1/2:1  (starting in September)

  • study skills – particular emphasis on writing and revision strategies
  • processing speed techniques
  • interpersonal skills
  • curriculum focused activities

7.     Group Handwriting/Presentation Course  (starting in January)
  • 12 x 40 minute lessons spread over two terms
  • Emphasis on: formation and clarity, writing speed/timed writing,presentation and spatial awareness

N.B. For all lesson types:
  • reference will be made to the boy’s formal assessment
  • a teaching agreement is made with parents 
  • reports will be issued at the standard report times
