General Admission Procedure
Entry to First Year at 11+
The majority of boys joining at this age typically come from maintained primary schools, alongside a number from independent preparatory schools which finish at age 11. Entry is via a written examination, interview and Headteacher’s report. Candidates sit a written exam in the January of the year of entry.
The closing date for registration for entry at 11+ is 1 November preceding the examination. After this date registrations are at the Headmaster’s discretion.
Advance Place Examination 10+
The School also holds a 10+ examination each January for boys in Year 5 for
Advance Places for entry at 11+ in September of the
following year. This assists parents who feel their son is ready and who wish to reduce uncertainty. A boy who rejects or is not offered an Advance Place can sit the 11+ examination completely afresh in the following year. A boy who accepts an Advance Place need take no further examination for entry but can, if he wishes, sit for an Award by taking the 11+ examination in the following January.
The closing date for registration for the 10+ examination for entry at 11+ is 1 November preceding the examination. After this date registrations are at the Headmaster’s discretion.
Entry to Third Year at 13+
Boys from independent Preparatory Schools which finish at age 13 join at 13+. Entry is via a written examination (Pre-test), interview and Headteacher's report, and offers are made subject to satisfactory performance in Common Entrance or Scholarship. Candidates sit a written Pre-test in January during
Year 6, two and a half years before proposed entry. If the boy achieves a conditional place and if Hampton is the first choice school, the boy takes the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) or Common Scholarship in the summer before entry. The Pre-test is on the same lines as the 11+ examination. This enables us to seek equivalent entry standards at 11+ and 13+.
The closing date for registration for entry at 13+ is the 1 November preceeding the examination. After this date registrations are at the Headmaster’s discretion.

Entry to Sixth Form
We welcome external applicants for the Sixth Form and many have been very successful. We like to meet and advise boys during their Fifth Year (Year 11). Entry will be via interview, current Headteacher’s report, a personal statement and is dependent on GCSE results.
The closing date for registration for entry to the Sixth Form is 15 February prior to entry in September. After this date registrations are at the Headmaster’s discretion
Admission in other circumstances
Applications for entry at other ages or at other points during the course of the academic year are at the discretion of the Headmaster and will be based on academic ability and all round merit.
