The Hampton Heads - 2014/15 Season
Hampton School Small Boats Head - 29.11.14
We are currently on Red Boards, but the flow rate has already started to drop and as long as there is no heavy rain over the next few days we are confident the race will go ahead. Please ensure your crews have the ability to cope with the conditions on the day. Any crews which marshal's believe are not competent will be withdrawn for their own safety and other competitors.
Please be aware the England Rugby Team are playing Australia at Twickenham on Saturday, kick off 2:30.
Each year the Hampton School Boat Club hosts two major rowing events on its home stretch of the River Thames - The Hampton Small Boats Head and the Hampton Fours and Eights Head.
Both races are run over a course of approximately 3000m downstream from Sunbury Lock. The first of these events is the Small Boats Head, typically held in late November, with the Fours and Eights head following in late January/early February.
Viewing is possible, along the full length of the course; from the towpath running on the south (Molesey) bank from the start at Sunbury Lock to the finish at the western end of Platt's Eyot. Some cycling is possible (but more difficult than at other venues); most supporters gather at the eastern end of Hurst Park, opposite Platt's Eyot to cheer on at the finish.
Food: Teas are provided at Molesey Boat Club. This is a brisk and hunger making 10-15 minute walk from the competition. The Hampton and Lady Eleanor Holles Boat Club Association also runs a refreshment tent about 200 yards upstream from the finish. For the Small Boats Head, lunches are also available from the tent.
Facilities: Loos at Molesey Boat Club. There are mobile toilets at Sadlers Ride plus a 'superloo' in the car park.
